V6–Xpert is a professional image software application used to analyse and process scientific images:

It includes all the data acquisition, viewing and image handling functions of V6-Lite.
It makes the wide selection of its library's algorithms available to users by means of interactive commands.
To automate tasks users can use a code editor that records a series of actions (processing commands, interface settings, graphical and digital data handling). The scripts are written in Visual Basic.

Processing and analysis features

The user has access to many image processing and analysis functions. Each year the Visilog library is enriched with new algorithms.
The results are formatted and sent to a spreadsheet, making them easy to interpret.
The sequencing of elementary commands, with the necessary settings, allows for the execution of the entire processing.
Automation is made possible by the recording of each action. The algorithm can thus be used on demand.
The creation of a custom application is done using VBA which can easily enhance the application interface and functions.

Processing

V6-Xpert gives access to all the image processing and analysis functions contained in the Visilog library, which is enhanced with new algorithms every year. Access is obtained using easy to use interactive commands that are parametered depending on the processing

Formatting results

These image processing tools are supplemented by functions available on the "Result Viewer". They are used to manage all the graphical and alphanumeric data originating from the algorithms used. The user thus quickly obtains formatted results that are easy to interpret.

V6-Xpert is used to drive Excel or Word to obtain a formatted document

Developing complex processes

The sequencing of elementary commands, optimally parametered, allows for the production of processing algorithms suited to the target application. The interactivity and ease of use of these commands allow for fast testing using a "trial and error" process.

Automation

The recording of all actions simplifies the development of algorithms. The user can therefore apply sequences of selected commands on a large number of images.

This automation provides traceable and reproducible results.

Enhancement of the tree structure

The VBA macros can be integrated as commands, thus enhancing the Visilog tree structure.

Creating the application

The use of the VBA application editor makes development of the application comfortable.

It can easily enhance the application interface and general computing functions.

In particular, it makes it possible to directly address other applications such as Word and Excel and thus immediately export results to predefined standard forms.

A demonstration version (demonstrator) is also available on request for users wishing to get an idea of the vast possibilities of image processing and analysis offered by Visilog

This module enables parallel processing of many image processing commands. Visilog optimises user computer performances by using all the processors in order to reduce calculation times.

This module is used to process, quantify and view 3D images.

It gives the possibility of using Visilog 2D commands on 3D images: measurements, thresholding, morphing, filtering, analysis, watershed...

3D Module exemple 1

Particle separation using a 3D watershed algorithm and particle labelling. Here the 3D representation is made using a reconstruction: the 3D object is represented by a set of tetrahedrons.

3D Module exemple 2

This module is used to rebuild 3D images using stacks of 2D images. In a similar way a 3D image can be viewed as a cut using a selected angle.

This module eases the implementation of analyses over a large number of fields. This is a need whenever statistics need a high number of samples that can only be reached through the analysis of several dozens or even several hundreds of images. This is the case for example, for cell tests, fineness tests or controlling metallurgical samples.

The Stage module was developed to make the driving of the equipment for these analyses easier: motorised tables and, in many cases, microscopes (optical or electron) or digital binocular magnifiers.

A user-friendly interface is used to define disk scanning trajectories using formal or interactive data. These trajectories define an analysis area, the fields selected within the area and an autofocus strategy selected from the list of proposed strategies.

Stage Module

The analysis, in this module, associates a trajectory to a VBA macro that will be run against each field.

This module is used to develop analyses from the simplest to the most complex including zstack acquisition or multiple acquisitions (case of fluorescence).

This module is used to analyse fibres and more especially to measure their length and thickness. The specificities of fibres is firstly the ratio between the two measurements and secondly the fact that the images have many crossing points caused by superimpositions.

The analysis uses a series of image processes followed by a heuristic analysis to manage the crossing points. A specific interface eases the adjustment of the parameters by showing the relevant intermediate results. Once the settings are parametered the images can be processed using a single command.

For efficiency reasons this module uses two algorithms, one specialised in analysing straight fibres (glass fibres for example), the second in all other fibres.

Fibre Module

Specific correction utilities are used to perfect the analysis and refresh the results.
